Pretty long meeting, not unexpectedly.
We started the evening with a closed session involving a liability issue. Can’t say much about that.

Probably another long one. We seem to have a lot of them nowadays.
We start the evening with a closed session involving a liability claim against the city, and I literally know nothing more than that. Then we have five minutes to go from the West Conference Room over to the NOVA conference room for a joint study session with the Planning Commission and the Sustainability Commission regarding the El Camino Real Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) proposal. Then we dash back to chambers for the council meeting.
Late, I know. It’s been a busy time.
We started with a joint study session with the Planning Commission, to discuss the various levels of approval for different types of applications and appeals. It was mostly an educational session for the various decision-makers, and it didn’t really represent any sort of plans to change policy or process.
Ran across an interesting article about the use of RFID tracking in Sunnyvale’s solid waste service. Specialty is using RFID to track pickup and service details, to improve response time and guarantee complete coverage. Neat stuff.
Please note that this is unconfirmed by me. I know nothing about it other than this article that just came across my radar. The San Jose Business Journal is reporting that the US Post Office has identified new space for the main Sunnyvale post office at 209 E. Java Drive in the far northern part of the city. As previously reported in a number of places, the existing main post office on Mary is being sold and developed into an office building that will be occupied by Apple.
Interesting choice for the USPS, if true. One really nice aspect is that it’s effectively a reverse commute for its fleet of postal vehicles, which has to be a big win. UPS and FedEx already made similar choices in their locations.
