Very diverse and interesting night.

We started the evening late, unfortunately – the first time in several years that that happened. I came out at 7:00 to make the announcement and explain that we were in a closed session that had some timeliness, and we needed to start a bit late. So we started the meeting at about 7:25, as I recall.

The closed session involved the potential sale of the Raynor Activity Center, and in the closed session report, I reported that we had directed staff to begin negotiations with Stratford School.

San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara Ranked 4th Most Expensive Region To Live

An article at wallstreetcheatsheet.com tells us what we already knew – it’s very expensive to live here. Our metro area was ranked fourth most expensive in the nation. The top four are

Honolulu, HI
Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown, NY
New York, Northern New Jersey, Long Island, NY-NJ-PA
San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, CA

The article goes on to say that our Consumer Price Index (CPI) has increased 2.4% in just the last 12 months, which not only reflects what we pay for stuff, but will also affect all sorts of municipal and other expenses that are CPI-based. The article singles out the high cost of goods and high rents in this area as major factors for our ranking.

But really, Poughkeepsie? We couldn’t beat Poughkeepsie?

Residential Fire on Central Avenue

Forwarding some bad news. A residential fire broke out early this morning on the 200 block of Central Avenue, between Evelyn and Bryan, east of the Downtown. After extinguishing the blaze and once it was safe to enter, Sunnyvale Public Safety located a deceased female in the structure. That’s all the news I have on this at this time.

Wow, what a long meeting. Pretty much our longest in years.

We started the evening with a closed session for the City Manager’s evaluation. We then went to open session, where we recognized National Public Works Week.

5/7/2013 Council Summary – CDBG Funding

I think the summary is going to be much, much shorter than the actual meeting. I’m getting caught up, sorry for the delay.

We started the evening with a closed session regarding the City Attorney’s performance review. We do these every six months for both the City Attorney and the City Manager. This was Joan’s first one.
