Sunnyvale Breaks Ground On Seven Seas Park!

I was thrilled to be a part of the official groundbreaking for Seven Seas Park, a new 5.3 acre park in northern Sunnyvale on Morse Avenue near Weddell.  This event marks the end of a very long planning process and environmental remediation, and the start of what hopefully will be a very quick construction job.  Staff told us that prior to this year, it has been 25 years since we last constructed a new park (Encinal Park near Maude and Mary).

This is just a terrific milestone. We’ve been working on the funding and planning for this park for many years, and some of the residents have been advocating for this park for going on seven years now. Getting to this point meant establishing the funding, then ending use of the city’s industrial buildings on the site, then doing the environmental remediation, which alone required the removal of about 3 feet of topsoil on site. It’s just wonderful that we’ve gotten through all of that, so that we can start the work of putting shovels in the ground and getting the area turned into an amenity that is badly needed in this part of Sunnyvale.
